On this short video I´m going to show you how you can create your KDP paperback cover in just 3 simple steps, while avoiding to be rejected by the KDP platform.
Step1 - Download the Right Cover Template
Let´s say that you are creating an 8.5" x 11" book and your total page quantity is 125 pages, write down these values because you will need them on this first step.
So we will need to Downoad The KDp Cover Template, find the link on the Kindle Resources Page above. Enter the previous values and download your zip file with your cover template.
Once you downloaded the file, please unzip and open the PNG file, write down the value for the spine width and at the same time convert the format from PNG to JPG, that you can use with the Paint tool or with another graphics editor, or use the Free tool on my Kindle Resources Page.
OK, the step number 2 is How To Determine Your Cover Dimensiones, so for these you will need to use the formula on video or to download the Spread sheet on the Kindle Resources and just enter the values for the page width, page height and spine width.
Take a note of result values because you will need them on the next step.
The Step number 3 is How to Design Your Cover.
for this you can use whatever tool you desire as photoshop. power point, but for this example we will use Canva, which is a free tool.
Once on Canva, just click on Custom Dimensions and enter the values given by the formulas for the total page width ans total page height, then you need to start by adding a cover backgound, use whater image you want, you can get backgrounds or patterns from Creative fabrica or whatever sources that you want.
The next step is to add the cover template on the second layer, the purpose of this template is to help us align the text on both the front and back cover to avoid letting text over the edges or over the spine.
Once you are done with your design, you must delete this template and save your cover boo as a PDF Print file.
And that´s it, there you have it, you ready to upload KDP Paperback cover and with this method your book cover will not be reject by the KDP platform.
